This is one of the rare titles that tell it all. SHADES will take you through

We again follow the tale of Captain Chaz Bergren and her lover Gabriel Ross
Sullivan, a rare human "Kyi-Ragkiril". Their travels will take you to renegade
gen labs, abandoned space docks and the inner most of the "human" heart and soul
with its shades of dark.
Ms Sinclair will introduce you to new friends and new fiends -- Monsters of the

You’ll find reports from Sully’s ghost ship and the crew of the KARN are now
available in SHADES OF DARK! SHADES OF DARK continues the story of Sully
and Chaz about 3 months after GABRIEL'S GHOST. This continuation of
their story is fulfilling from all aspects -
relationships, politics and space adventure is mixed with love, suspense and
action.
The crew of the KARN learns the Federation is falling apart when they rescue
Chaz's ex-husband and the action escalates from there. We meet some new players
and loose some old friends in this war. Meanwhile, someone from the crew is
betraying them and emotions are high. Gabriel [Sully] and Chaz continue to share
something special and their Kyi-psi link is growing - while they still have
differences of opinion and sometimes separate agendas. The prince of the
Kyi-Ragkiril appears as friend and mentor, but he has an agenda of his own that
might prove more dangerous to Sully and Chaz than the traitor on their ship.
SHADES OF DARK is just so-o-o-o go-o-o-od! I LOVED IT! If you liked GABRIEL'S
GHOST, this sequel is a MUST! (And I hear the publisher was smart enough to
request more from this world as the rebellion continues -- woo-who! book futures

SEASON OF THE WITCH. Natasha Mostert

Gabriel Blackstone is a hacker, who has a very special gift. Gabriel can go into
a trance and see through someone else's eyes, sometimes in the past and
sometimes in the present. Gabriel hasn't used his gift in a very long time,
because the kidnapping case he was trying to help solve ended very badly. Then,
Frankie, a former lover, asks Gabriel to help find her missing stepson.
Gabriel's investigation leads him to suspect one of the Monk sisters, Morrighan
or Minnaloushe, of murdering Frankie's stepson. The Monk sisters, who are solar
witches obsessed with the art of memory, begin courting Gabriel in hopes of
using him in their magic.
SEASON OF THE WITCH is a paranormal book with romantic elements and a horror
genre feel. Gabriel is not a normal hero-- he is a very flawed human, who seems
very fickle in his romantic attachments. There is an air of mystery and
creepiness which pervades the story, and the ending is a surprise. THE SEASON OF
THE WITCH is not for the reader looking for a normal romance ending. On the
other hand, the reader, who loves horror and doesn't mind a bittersweet ending
will find this book hits the spot.

From Dead to Worse. Charlaine Harris (Sookie
Stackhouse - Southern Vampire Mystery #8)
Hardcover (Paranormal Novel) Reviewed by Cy Korte
[May]
$24.95 BI PRICE: $19.96 [Order It!]
 |
Accepted as part of Louisiana’s supernatural community because of her talent and
past events, Sookie Stackhouse is still cautiously finding her way. While
working as a barmaid with a semi-regular routine, she has friends who bring her
into their world by asking for help. Political intrigues and power plays in the
"regular" and "supernatural" societies make her feel occasionally helpless, but
rarely hopeless. Sookie again chooses to "do the right thing" and aiding those
in need even if it may cost her life.
There are signs of a were-war coming involving her ex-boyfriend, Alcide. The
leader of the local vampire community Eric Northman has difficulties of his own
that are coming to her doorstep and she might have to allow them in. Meanwhile,
she finds relatives she didn't know existed and Quinn, her shifter boyfriend
seems to have disappeared.
Ms. Harris mixes friends and fiends in a sometimes violent tale in a
conventional Louisiana setting. Sookie Stackhouse is a big-hearted woman with
character that a reader will care about and respect. The supporting characters
may be varied in personalities and powers but all are intriguing.
Although this book is the 8th in the series, this is the first book by Charlaine
Harris I have read and I can tell you that even with events hinted at through
the story, the story was complete without reading the previous books. I will
also say that now I wish to read the rest of this series to fill out characters
and past events mentioned. I am looking forward to the next Sookie Stackhouse
story and I can certainly see why it is being made into HBO's TRUE BLOOD series.

Saved from a wildfire as a child-pup by Devlyn, Red werewolf Bella is adopted
into a pack of Gray werewolves. When the new alpha, Volan tries to force her to
become his mate, Bella goes into hiding. Werewolves age 1 year for every 30
human years, so her exile has been a long one. Bella is still in love with
Devlyn, but knows he will not leave the pack. Even if they did, Volan would come
after her destroying anyone who stood against his claiming her.
When she scents it is a werewolf responsible for killing local women, Bella
searches the woods in her wolf form. Distracted, Bella is unaware of the danger
until she is tranquilized and brought to the zoo. Bella must escape the zoo
before the moon fades and she becomes human, unable to shift back to her wolf
form for several days. Meanwhile, news of a rare female red wolf in captivity
reaches not only Volan's pack, but the local red werewolves looking for a
mate... and the chase begins.
Devlyn is not ambitious in wanting to be pack alpha, although he is willing to
fight for Bella. He comes to take her back to her adopted pack but when she
explains the werewolf killings, he agrees that they need to solve the case to
maintain the secret of lupus garou's existence. As if Devlyn and Bella don't
have enough trouble with lupus garou politics and danger, they have the
zookeeper hot on the trail of the missing red wolf.
Bella is independent but a realist which makes an interesting alpha heroine.
Rather than following the popular trend with multiple shape-shifting types, this
book focuses on Wolf packs as lupus garou. I enjoyed that for lupus garou, there
are "nationalities" as well as packs. There is enough humor and hot romance to
balance the suspense and information in the storyline. HEART OF THE WOLF is an
enjoyable romantic suspense and shape shifter story you won't want to miss.

Rain fell as Red Gloves and her sword-sister, Bethral, came out of the bog to
knock on the door of
the only shelter in the area. Josaih begrudgingly offers them the barn with his
goats. When he
walks in while Red Gloves is washing, he sees her dagger-star birthmark. Red
Gloves is a mercenary
and follows the ‘Way of the Twelve’ rather than Lord of Light and Lady of
Laughter; so rejects his
statement that she is the Chosen of Palins that prophecy says will reunite the
kingdom.
Josaih is more than a goat-herder and there is more to the prophecy than being
born with a
dagger-star birthmark. Although Red Gloves and Josaih have no paranormal
talents, we meet Elves,
priests and High priestess of Palins, Mages and wild magic.
Bethral, who got Red to take this quest for adventure, finds her own fate
unfolding with events.
Red Gloves is as aggressive and insolent as you would expect of a mercenary and
grief-stricken
Josaih begins to heal as the battle strategy unfolds. The fast-action story and
the adventure is
captivating. The wonderful world and variety of characters make this a book you will find
hard to put down.
DAGGER-STAR is on the same world as the Warlands Trilogy, but involves different
kingdoms and
characters. Except for a storyteller offering to tell the Tale of Xy, there is
no connection. Although after you enjoy reading this story you may wish to read
her other titles. The story has the
same writing style of developing relationships, quests and subplots with lots of
action. If you had put the 'Warland' trilogy on your keeper shelf,
you will want to put this one on your April must-buy list.

Mercenaries Red Gloves and her companion, Bethral are lost in the rain and have

only one rule "if you see Red without her gloves run very fast.
Josiah is a man who has lost everything and lives in exile with a herd of goats.
He lives in the only shelter for miles on an old battle field that used to be
his home. Finding mercenaries knocking on his door late during a rainy night was
NOT an auspicious meeting.
When he sees the birthmark, he tells Red Gloves of the prophesy saying a person

Madeline Prescott is desperate to prove her father's innocence and squelch the
scandal attached to his name. Madeline's father, a physician, had used nitrous
oxide on a patient and was blamed for her death by some people in their small
community. Madeline hopes to gain the assistance of the foremost authority on
the use of nitrous oxide, Sir Humphry Davy, to prove her father's innocence.
Madeline, who was forced to leave her small village because of the scandal, has
taken a teaching position at Mrs. Harris's School for Young Ladies. When Anthony
Dalton, Viscount Norcourt, arrives seeking to enroll his niece in the school, it
seems like the answer to Madeline's prayers. Because Anthony attends nitrous
oxide parties and knows Sir Humphry Davy, Madeline hopes to get Anthony to
introduce her to him. Unfortunately, Anthony, who is considered a rake, must
change his ways in order to gain custody of his niece and take her away from his
abusive aunt and uncle. However, Madeline is determined and has a plan.
LET SLEEPING ROGUES LIE, the fourth book in the School for Heiresses series, is
an enjoyable regency romance with many humorous moments and wonderful
characters. The prologue to the book adds greatly to the development of
Anthony's character. It gives great insight into what makes Anthony tick and
shows the abuse that has turned him into a rogue. Madeline, on the other hand,
is no wilting flower-- she has control issues. In fact, I was a little irked
that it took so long for her to come clean with Anthony. Madeline has to learn
how to trust and give up some control to those she loves. I greatly enjoyed the
witty banter between Madeline and Anthony and found myself chuckling on
occasion. I found the historical information about nitrous oxide very
interesting. It is always good to learn something, while being entertained.
All in all, LET SLEEPING ROGUES LIE is a great regency romance with a yummy,
tortured hero. I highly recommend it.

Ever since the day Jayr gave her human life to save Byrne many centuries ago,
she has served as his faithful seneschal. She has been his protector and has
seen that his every need is fulfilled...by other women. For even though Jayr has
loved Byrne for all this time, their love is forbidden as that between master
and seneschal.
In his mortal life, Aedan mac Byrne ruled as laird of the mac Byrne clan. He was
fierce and battle worn and spilled more than his fair share of English blood in
Scotland's fight for freedom. It was during the battle at Bannokburn that Byrne
met his fate. Lying in a pit dying, Jayr accidentally stumbles upon him and
saves him. From that moment on, Byrne has never forgiven himself for destroying
Jayr's innocent life and causing the only scars that mar Jayr's flesh. He can't
stop thinking about how she saved his life all those years ago and yet, that was
how he repaid her. He's loved her as he's never loved anyone else -- or ever
will -- but he knows that their love can never be. Byrne has now grown weary of
not only this half-life that he is living, but also as serving as suzerain of
the Realm. He plans to have one last tournament in which Kyn lord from around
the world will compete; but unbeknownst to them, Byrne plans to offer the winner
the position of suzerain of his jardin. Little does Byrne realize that this not
only will put his jardin in jeopardy, but Jayr's life, as well.
I must admit that when I first started reading this book, I was pretty confused.
It had been almost a year since I'd last read Night Lost and I just had a really
difficult time getting into the rhythm of the book. However, I know that stems
from my own personal issues of having to always read books in order so I'll know
what is happening and who the characters are. And therein lied my problem -- I
just couldn't remember who Jayr & Byrne were. Actually I guess it's more of a
case that I couldn't remember if I was suppose to remember Jayr & Byrne.
I love the Darkyn series. The books are dark and erotic and filled with so much
intrigue, that I just can't put them down until the last page is turned. Jayr
and Byrne are two characters with both so much honor that they have a difficult
time transitioning from their original roles as suzerain and seneschal and into
the roles of lovers. They've both harbored this deep, passionate love for one
another for hundreds of years, yet both were scared of offending the other or
having their feelings rebuffed. I still remember picking up the very first book
of the Darkyn series, If Angels Burn¸ and just being floored by this fantastic
and unique twist on vampirism. Luckily, Ms. Viehl doesn't disappoint me here
either. Evermore was a true delight to read.

This series is filled with non-stop sexy sci-fi action!!!
The Midnight Warrior series quite simply, ROCKS! And the 4th book in this
series, Parallel Desire by Deidre Knight, is no exception! I recommend reading
this series in order because Ms. Knight continues previous characters stories
with each book as she evolves other characters/aliens with fascinating plots and
intense action.
Parallel Desire pretty much picks up where Parallel Seduction left off. Jacob
[Jake] Tierny/Scott Dillon is an Antousian/alien and from the future. He
currently inhabits the identity/body of Jake Tierny, the man responsible for
killing his wife and unborn child. Determined to get answers and then kill the
younger Tierny, Jake/Scott chooses to strand himself back in time.
Leaving the Refarian base he once called home he continues his search of the
younger Jake Tierny in hopes of altering this time line and securing the
survival of his younger wife that is now married to his younger self/Scott
Dillon. If that isn't enough to weigh a man down, the focus of his mission
becomes more and more jaded in a cloud of drunken despair and memories he can't
escape.
Jared the Refarian King wants Jake/Scott back on the base as the war to protect
Earth from the Antousians is heating up. So Shelby Tyler, a Refarian medic, has
been sent to retrieve Jake and bring him back. However Shelby is more than happy
to take on this mission as she is highly attracted to him. It doesn't take long
for the sparks to fly with sexy tension and excitement between the two.
Regardless of how simple the mission sounds, the past that each of them drags
behind them disrupts the easy return to base.
Ms. Knight once again, manages to take the plot of Parallel Desire and amp it up
with complexities not only occurring in her primary characters but also in the
secondary supports characters. It made the book an amazing read with all the
twists, turns and oh yeah, scintillating romance. Here's hoping Ms. Knight
continues with this fantastic series and the wonderful thought provoking plots
she weaves.

After years of war, Keltish Triad and the United Coalition have formed an
alliance but will it last? In a world where alliance does not mean friends, will
a new threat be discovered to destroy the peace?
Branden Kel-Paten, the Admiral commanding First Fleet, has demanded that Captain
Tasha Sebastian be stationed on his ship and to get her there he has agreed that
some of her crew will join his crew. This includes Tasha's friend, Doctor Eden
Fynn, Chief Medical Officer. To complete the cast of the crew on Triad
Huntership "Vaxxar" there is Reilly, Eden's fursal and Tank, Sass' fursal.
Although Doc Eden wishes to stay on planet to discover what is causing
mysterious deaths, Vaxxar has been ordered to capture Pirate Captain Jace
Serafino. The pirate is Kel- Paten's long-time enemy, one of the few besides
Sass to make him loose his legendary cool.
Sass lives up to her name with humor and dialog through- out the story. The
telepathic focus in the story compliments the science which is well written.
Fans of Star Trek will see its influence in this space opera.
GAMES OF COMMAND is a stand-alone book includes science fiction and romance in a
balance that will satisfy both genre readers. The emotion, action and suspense
will keep you turning pages until the very end and still wish for more.
For those who may ask - this is NOT a rewrite of COMMAND PERFORMANCE! Although
there are certain similarities, this is a new story albeit with the same
characters and similar bones.

After reading this book you will forget your preconceived
idea of ZOMBIES! For those who enjoyed the movies MEN IN BLACK and MIB II,
you will enjoy this book's humor and storyline.
Bio-engineered creatures called ZOMBIES were originally designed for
protection but have turned murderous and it is up to the Interplanetary
Guardian Force to seek and destroy.
It's Christmas in Bahia Vista, Florida, USA and Homicide Detective Sergeant
Theo Petrakos was not looking forward to the holidays with friends and
family match-making efforts. He had one last call before his vacation begins
but he wasn’t sure weird was an accurate case description. A strangely
mummified body went to the morgue and his responsibility is to take some
sort of hi-tech computer equipment to the station. The last thing he
expected while making a short stop by his home was the appearance of monster
and a sassy pint-size lady warrior coming to his aide.
Since the Tresh Border War ended, Commander Jorie Mikkalah is part of the
Guardian Force. She is dealing with shipboard politics which includes an
ex-lover who has given her questionable evaluation and Captain Pietr who
pits one officer against the other. Finding her way on a nil-tech planet
whose strange language is similar to Vekran is not the easiest duty, but a
friend assigned to Earth has not made contact and she feared he was dead.
While attempting to recover the T-MOD and escape from ZOMBIE attack she
transports Theo with her to her ship.
Although Jorie presents her suspicion that there is more than ZOMBIES on
Earth, Captain Pietr is not convinced. After some tactful arguments, the
Captain agrees to allow Theo to work with Jorie and her team to resolve
Earth's ZOMBIE situation. They soon find the true extent of danger and must
work with what and who is available despite regulations. Amidst distress and
damage, these unlikely partners discover they are more alike than expected.
The fast-paced, unfolding of danger and melding of their efforts builds a
believable adventure with a sly humor. The characters respect for duty and
chain-of-command and frustration over its limitations as well as snippets
showing differences and similarities in their relationships present a
well-rounded troop. The humorous perceptions of Earth by Jorie and her
rescue team added to the actions and reactions of Theo, his friends, family
and neighbors build layers and details that readers will appreciate.
For further reader enjoyment, Ms Sinclair has links a video book blurb and
the song DOWN HOME ZOMBIE BLUES available for fans who visit her web site.

 | Jayne Ann Krentz returns under the Jayne Castle penname to give us
another paranormal tale in the Harmony series (After Dark, After Glow and
Ghost Hunter), and again, I think it JAK at her very best. I think she is
fresher, more like her peak style in the Castle books, and I look forward to
each new addition. It's great world-building - Covenant Marriage, psi
powers, dust bunnies, powerful guilds and even more powerful men who control
them.
Celinda Ingrams is the leading authority on Covenant Marriages, which are
similar to old marriages of the ton really, people marrying for the
advantage of both parties. Only, her matchmaking ended in trouble, so now
she is flying low - or so she hopes. Her dust bunny convinces her she needs
a toy, only the toy turns out to be something else entirely. It's one of the
relics left over by the mysterious alien race that once lived on Harmony.
The relic was stolen from the Guild at Cadence, and the Guild boss is
determined to see it fetched back. To that aim, he employs Davis Oakes to
aid in it's return. Davis owns and runs Oakes security, but he is also a
Ghost Hunter. He has rare talents, even for a ghost hunter, and also has
secrets, both which he tries to keep under his hat.
Readers won't be surprised when his psi clicks with Celinda. Celinda is not
too thrilled with the prospect, as all this brings her too close to the
Guild again, which threatens to bring out all the old secrets she has been
trying to avoid. As the pair becomes a target, they are forced to join their
psi talents in order to stay one step ahead of the person who will stop at
nothing to possess the relic.
I highly recommend the whole series, as well as Amaryllis, Orchid and
Zinnia.

In family military tradition, Chasidah 'Chaz' Bergren was a dedicated captain of
an interstellar patrol ship. The shock of a railroaded court-martial and
sentence of life imprisonment on Moabar had barely set in when she received an
offer from a nemesis she thought was dead.
Gabriel "Sully" Sullivan was not a ghost, but an intergalactic pirate on a
mission of mercy. Sully needs Chaz's help uncovering a deadly plot involving
high council members of the empire. Their survival skills and determination are
put to the test and on a more personal level, Chaz's trust and growing affection
is tested time and time again as one-by-one she learns Gabriel's secrets.
Sully is an intriguing mix of authority and power with insecurity that grabs
your heart. Chaz is sassy and pragmatic and is comfortable with her feminine
disposition. Sully's friend Ren, Chaz's ex-husband Philip and her brother Thad
may be secondary characters, but they are not secondary in this quest. The
subtle weaving of events into a complex but easily followed plot makes this a
book for your keeper shelf.
SHADES OF DARK continues the story of Sully and Chaz only months after
the ending of GABRIEL'S GHOST. This sequel coming August 2008,

Kate, whose former boyfriend owed money to a Russian
mobster, is forced to pay off his debts by working in the mobster's
sleazy club. Kate is terrified when her newest act involves a Siberian
tiger and an African lion. After a terrifying first stage appearance
with the big cats, Kate decides to release them. Kate opens the cage and
the outside door for the drugged cats and leaves. Later when Kate
returns, two big, blond men are fleeing from the mob guys and take her
captive.
FELINE HEAT is a shapeshifter story with many erotic scenes, but I never
felt much of a connection to the characters. Kate is too much of a
victim and she never really learns to communicate with her significant
others. Towards the end of the book, Kate did seem to grow a back bone.
I only wish it had come much sooner. Sergei, the tiger shifter, is the
most fleshed out character of the two male protagonists, and I enjoyed
his character. Unfortunately, poor Silvair, the lion shifter, is given
short shrift. I never really got much of a handle on Silvair's
character. There are some humorous moments during the rivalry between
Sergei and Silvair over Kate which lightens an otherwise dark story.
Warning: This book is filled with sex scenes that may offend some
readers-- sex in shifted form, forced sex, and multiple partners.

WHEN DAWN BREAKS. Kaitlyn O'Connor

Lucifer, a Saitren from the planet Nadryl, comes to
Earth seeking aid and to warn of a plague, which threatens his world and
will likely affect Earth. Unfortunately, the military, who captures
Lucifer, doesn't believe him and arranges for scientists to study
him--among these scientists is Nicole. Lucifer is very attracted to
Nicole, but she seems to ignore him. Will Lucifer escape in time to save
his world, and what of his growing need for Nicole?
WHEN DAWN BREAKS is a highly enjoyable, futuristic romance, which has a
unique take on demon mythology. Ms. O'Connor creates an interesting,
exciting world filled with hot, winged aliens, who have special
adaptations used to please women. In my opinion, Nicole could have been
less fearful and more assertive, but that is my personal preference.
Nicole did grow stronger toward the end of the book, and her character
suited Lucifer. There is a great secondary romance between Nicole's
fellow scientist and Lucifer's second-in-command, which greatly adds to
the story.
All in all, WHEN DAWN BREAKS is a great read, which I highly recommend.
(The next story of Nadryl is WHEN NIGHT FALLS)
